What is a T Beam?

A T beam is a type of reinforced concrete beam with a cross-section shaped like the letter “T”. It is often formed by casting the beam and a portion of the floor slab together, creating a composite structure. The top horizontal portion of the T (called the flange) resists compressive stress, while the vertical portion (the web) resists shear stress and adds bending resistance.

What is an H Pile?

An H pile is a steel pile with an H-shaped cross-section used primarily in deep foundation systems. It is driven deep into the ground using pile-driving equipment to transfer loads from a structure down to a stronger soil or rock layer.

H piles are known for their high strength and load-bearing capacity. Unlike concrete piles, they are typically used in sites with hard driving conditions, where deep penetration is necessary.

Design Advantages of H Piles:

  • High Load Capacity: H piles can handle very high compressive and tensile loads, making them suitable for large structures.

  • Efficient Penetration: Their narrow cross-section allows them to be driven deep into compact soils and rocky ground with minimal displacement.

Applications of H Piles:

  • Skyscraper Foundations: In tall buildings, H piles provide essential support in areas where shallow foundations would fail.

  • Bridges and Marine Structures: H piles are used for bridge piers, abutments, and bulkheads, especially in water or soft soil environments.

  • Retaining Walls and Earth Support: They are also used in retaining structures to resist lateral earth pressure.
